01        Reviewing the foundations

Jürgen Engel klein.jpg

Jürgen Engel: "The Living Energy of Need"

The profound depth and spiritual essence of NVC, along with the practice of Living Compassion as taught by Robert Gonzales: In this session, we will explore the energetic and spiritual depth of the concept of "needs" within Nonviolent Communication, delving into the actual, individual inner experiences we have when connecting with certain needs. Instead of focusing on whether needs are "met" or "unmet" and considering one more desirable than the other, we will explore a space beyond this binary, where we connect with the frequency or energy of the life force we call "needs."

Yoram Mosenzon.jpg

Yoram Mosenzon: "The Power of Emapthy"

My focus lies on the Embodiment part of NVC- on Radical Honesty/Radical Empathy. My whole being is focused on my relation to people, while my teaching navigates in the subtle delicacy of figuring out ‘what (the fuck) is going on between and within people’ moment by moment by moment.

Karen starz.jpeg

Karen Starz: "Love Your Parts, They Love You"

In this highly interactive workshop we will acknowledge the angry parts of us. Before transforming them to anything different, we will spend time hearing them, dancing with them and trusting that they have something important to say. There will be multiple breakouts in which you will practice with a partner. A fundamental knowledge of feelings/ needs vocabulary and NVC is helpful to experience the fullness of role-playing. If you are curious about what your anger has to say or why it seems to have a life of its own when you are trying so hard to be peaceful, this is the workshop for you. Or, if you are wanting to see change in the world and can't express yourself without being angry, this is also the workshop for you. If you are longing to be heard or to become comfortable with all of you, this is the workshop for you. The takeaways are: greater self-connection awareness of how your different parts communicate and which one is loudest in you what you value the most in life greater comfortability with anger"

Liv Larson.jpg

Liv Larsson: "Unmasking shame"

Shame is a door to vulnerability and compassion. Befriending shame is an investment. Not having to avoid shame means that you can say "yes" to your dreams, even if you are not perfect. Being friends with shame means you can let people closer to you, you will not die even if they see your flaws. This session is a taste of how to work with The Compass of Needs to become more friendly to yourself." Liv  is the author of more than 20 books. She has been a Certified trainer for Center for Nonviolent Communication since 2002 and an educator since 1992. Liv is also a mediator mainly working with conflicts between the indigenous group in Scandinavia, the Same, and forest and mining industries. Also holds a masters degree in Literature and Creative writing

Nadine-Helm.jpeg

Nadine Helm:  "Preparing for authentic Dialogue"

Through working with challenges we experience in our family of origin, we will practice a process that can help us prepare ourselves before entering a challenging dialogue. It supports our own self-connection and clarity, allowing us to approach the dialogue from a need-connected place. It also helps us open our hearts to the other person and see their humanness. Before actually stepping into a dialogue, it lets us connect with our intention for mutual connection—which is a core principle of the consciousness of NVC. The process can also reveal when deeper healing is necessary before engaging in dialogue. It is a preparatory process aimed at increasing your need-connectedness regarding the triggering situation, preparing you for a potential dialogue, and offering clarity on how to best care for your needs

Marie R. Miyashiro, Catherine Cooley and Ranjitha Jeurkar: "NVC in the workplace: The mindset shifts it takes to create impact."

"Organizations are the single largest source of influence on the political, economic, and social conditions of our world. What could be possible if we brought NVC consciousness into more organizations, one team at a time? When we ‘teach’ NVC through classic OFNR (Observation, Feeling, Need, Request) methods, possibilities can be limited. However, applying NVC in organizations through experiential learning, with a focus on the “We” interactions within the organization, opens up new possibilities. In this session, you’ll begin to understand"

Lending a Helping Hand

Voices from Participants

  • NVC is not only about what we normally perceive as violent, it is about all the ways we have grown distant from our authentic selves, others, and life itself. It provides practical skillful tools. we can grow closer, more intimate, free, and connected to both ourselves, others, and life itself.

And if you see the other in relationships or surroundings as the violent ones, this program will support you in finding your voice and impactfully expressing and modeling to others how to methodically bring more compassion, closeness, and real peace to your surroundings. Peace is not about avoiding conflict and silencing your voice, but about peacefully learning to express yourself and navigate conflict in profound ways that bring people together.

  • Great question! We have specific workshops, focus groups, and one-on-one support to guide you through exactly these places. NVC can truly transform organizations and we look forward to supporting you in these kinds of processes exactly. Sometimes this can take time, and yet we encourage you to start today. The fruits and changes to your work culture can bring profound change on so many levels. We can’t wait to get started.

  • Great question! We have specific workshops, focus groups, and one-on-one support to guide you through exactly these places. Additionally, research has shown that when only 10 percent of a population is steeped in Non-Violent knowledge and practices entire system and population can change.  Do not wait, become one of this global 10 percent. Be  the change and skillfully join the compassionate revolution today,

  • Losing your center-  getting triggered, upset, and overwhelmed is a natural part of being human. This never completely disappears. In this program, with  NVC and other extremely useful modules, we will learn together how to skillfully refind your center, to make sense of what happened in a healing, empowering way, and to bring repair, quickly and effectively to the messy situation.

Besides repairing and healing specific explosive situations, in the longer and wider view of your relationships, we practice healing and leadership tools to make effective requests and create agreements that will build better patterns in the relationships that make up your life. This too has the likely potential to eventually make these incidents of trigger reactivity (mini or huge)  less frequent.

  • With NVC, again and again, we too are surprised at the depth of connection and intimacy that is created over Zoom. Small group practice allows PROFOUND  connection with people from all over the world. Especially when the invitation is to share about what is REALLY going on in your life, and the practice is to listen with skillfully non-judgmental and compassionate ears. We hear again and again that the sense of connection and richness in our program is hugely heartwarming, life-changing, and transformative. In fact, in our online programs,  People attest feeling supported and creating warm connections year after year.

That being said we also have an in-person program that happens a few times a year, you can write to us here for more info.

You might think:

  • Our programs normally have people from all over the world, for many of us, English is not our first language. We emphasize a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space. Encouraging to ask to slow down and ask questions when things are not clear. Sometimes it can even be possible to practice with people who share your native language. We respect and value that you are meeting us and the trainers in English despite it being your second or third language and it is important for us that you know this through the program.

  • If sharing in a group is not your preference you do not have to.

You are always in choice, you can decide to hold your process in a private written format, we do a lot of journaling and self-reflection process, or you can work in a pair and be the listener.

You can choose to share only with one person, or you can decide to share in the bigger circle. You can also choose to share examples that are less private, stimulating and revealing such as your interactions with the salesperson,  rather than your intimate relationships. In any case, together we practice clear tools and formulas that you can then take home and apply to any area of your life.

  • The human brain has been scientifically proven to be malleable, flexible, and able to change. In this program, the combination of relatable exciting theory, examples from life, ample opportunities to practice, and even tips on how to bring what you learn home,  are just what CAN make you see the change you long for in your real life. Over the years we have been holding this program, we have seen a life-changing transformation with participants of all ages and many forms of issues and challenges.

  • Even if the people around you won’t join the program,  YOU  will have new ways of responsiveness, listening, and handling space that will already cause a shift in the relational space. Additionally, we have seen the insights, information, and transformation you gain in the program will likely make others in your life become curious and be the next pens to jump in.

You will also likely connect and make new friends who are interested in exploring the nuances of communicating and relating, who will be a great resource of support to you when setting out to strengthen your close relationships.

Thank you for all the ways you have crafted this course and held care for community building. I personally am transforming in ways I had never imagined. And a lot of that has to do with your responsiveness and the ways you all on the team have adjusted to support me along the way.

Martin (Denmark)

  • A simple yet powerful tool for transforming communication patterns at home, work, and in social settings.

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a practice that fosters a deeper connection with ourselves and others through clear, compassionate communication. It helps resolve conflicts and build meaningful relationships by promoting clarity, joy, and awareness.

NVC is widely applied in various fields like government, business, education, therapy, and community-building to create life-supporting systems. It aligns our actions with our deepest values and fosters collaboration and mutual respect.

Founded by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg in the 1970s, NVC is rooted in Western psychology and worldwide spiritual traditions of nonviolence, drawing inspiration from leaders like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela.

    Short Answer:

  • This program is designed for anyone looking to improve their communication skills, build deeper relationships, and handle conflicts with compassion. It’s suitable for individuals, couples, professionals, and leaders in various fields.

  • Revisiting the Basics – We start by offering a self-paced immersion into the foundational tools of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which will be yours to keep and revisit anytime.

    1. Compassionate Self – This section focuses on nurturing a compassionate relationship with yourself, exploring self-awareness, and understanding how your internal dialogue shapes your interactions.

    2. Knowing Where I Come From – We explore your family of origin and other relational inheritances, helping you understand how past experiences shape your current relationship patterns.

    3. Knowing Where I’m Heading – This part supports you in consciously choosing the relationships you want to live and love, creating a path toward fulfilling connections.

    4. Nurturing Impactful Change – Finally, we address how to transform communication patterns in both personal and systemic spaces, fostering meaningful change in your life and the broader world.

The program is designed to cover all areas of our circles of relationships and relating:

  • The program runs from November 16, 2024, to April 6, 2025. It consists of five learning units with master workshops, deep practice sessions, optional one-on-one coaching, and peer support opportunities.

  • As far as we know, the “Relationships Matter” program is the only 4-month, globally offered program that involves a wide variety of trainers from around the world. (Many wonderful courses are led by 1-2 trainers.) We aim to include leading trainers who bring diverse approaches to what is generally called "NVC," making this a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

With a balance of visiting trainers teaching  the program, and a steady presence of host facilitators who will be with you throughout he program. Another beautiful element we’ve prioritized is building community. The NVC Rising team has over 15 years of experience (each!) in building communities, and we believe this is what humanity needs now more than ever. We're here to create it.

In this program, we’ll learn, experience, practice, and lead together through various methods of community building using NVC tools, such as:

    • Empathic check-ins: sharing and receiving from the heart

    • Community Circle: hearing voices in the community and exploring what is alive in us

    • Meditations for self-connection

    • Celebrations and mournings

    • Home groups

    • Empathy buddies and Trios

    • Dyad meditation

    • Small group practice teaching

    • NVC games or other content the group wishes to offer

    • Personal meetings with the team during program break time

    • Conflict Resolution support

    • Gift circles

    And much more!

  • One way to understand the root of wars is by recognizing that people often turn to conflict to meet essential human needs—belonging, meaning, contribution, and agency. In today’s societies, these needs are often unmet, leaving people disconnected and seeking fulfillment, sometimes through violence.

When people are part of a community, they have the opportunity to meet these needs in life-affirming ways. Communities provide a space for individuals to experience belonging, purpose, and the ability to contribute meaningfully, reducing the likelihood of violent conflict. For us, building communities means creating a world with fewer wars and more harmony.

  • Participants can choose between different levels of involvement, from attending master workshops to engaging in deeper practice sessions, as well as small group deep dives and one on one mentoring sessions with the NVC Rising team that will focus on implementing the theory into your daily life and strengthening your practice. We offer flexible participation to suit various learning styles and needs.

  • No prior experience is required. The course is designed to benefit both beginners and those who already have some understanding of NVC, with different levels of engagement to match your familiarity.

FAQ
