  • Short Answer:

A simple yet powerful tool for transforming communication patterns at home, work, and in wider social settings.

    Longer Answer:

Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a practice that fosters a deeper connection with ourselves and others through clear, compassionate communication. It helps resolve conflicts and build meaningful relationships by promoting clarity, joy, and awareness.

NVC is widely applied in various fields like government, business, education, therapy, and community-building to create life-supporting systems. It aligns our actions with our deepest values and fosters collaboration and mutual respect.

Founded by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg in the 1970s, NVC is rooted in Western psychology and worldwide spiritual traditions of nonviolence, drawing inspiration from leaders like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela.

  • This program is designed for anyone looking to improve their communication skills, build deeper relationships, and handle conflicts with compassion. It’s suitable for individuals, couples, professionals, and leaders in various fields.

  • The program is designed to cover all areas of our circles of relationships and relating:

Revisiting the Basics – We start by offering a self-paced immersion into the foundational tools of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which will be yours to keep and revisit anytime.

    1. Compassionate Self – This section focuses on nurturing a compassionate relationship with yourself, exploring self-awareness, and understanding how your internal dialogue shapes your interactions.

    2. Knowing Where I Come From – We explore your family of origin and other relational inheritances, helping you understand how past experiences shape your current relationship patterns.

    3. Knowing Where I’m Heading – This part supports you in consciously choosing the relationships you want to live and love, creating a path toward fulfilling connections.

Nurturing Impactful Change – Finally, we address how to transform communication patterns in both personal and systemic spaces, fostering meaningful change in your life and the broader world.

  • The program runs from January 18th, 2025, to May 11th, 2025. It consists of five learning units with master workshops, Q&A and deep practice sessions, optional one-on-one coaching, and peer support opportunities.

  • As far as we know, the “Relationships Matter” program is the only 4-month, globally offered program that involves a wide variety of trainers from around the world. (Many wonderful courses are led by 1-2 trainers.) We aim to include leading trainers who bring diverse approaches to what is generally called "NVC," making this a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

With a balance of visiting trainers teaching the program and a steady presence of host facilitators who will be with you throughout the program. Another beautiful element we’ve prioritized is building community. The NVC Rising team has over 15 years of experience (each!) in building communities and we believe this is what humanity needs now more than ever. We're here to create it.

In this program, we’ll learn, experience, practice, and lead together through various methods of community building using NVC tools, such as:

    • Empathic check-ins: sharing and receiving from the heart

    • Community Circle: hearing voices in the community and exploring what is alive in us

    • Meditations for self-connection

    • Celebrations and mournings

    • Home groups

    • Empathy buddies and Trios

    • Dyad meditation

    • Small group practice teaching

    • NVC games or other content the group wishes to offer

    • Personal meetings with the team during program break time

    • Conflict Resolution support

    • Gift circles

    And much more!

  • One way to understand the root of wars is by recognizing that people often turn to conflict to meet essential human needs—belonging, meaning, contribution, and agency. In today’s societies, these needs are often unmet, leaving people disconnected and seeking fulfillment, sometimes through violence.

When people are part of a community, they have the opportunity to meet these needs in life-affirming ways. Communities provide a space for individuals to experience belonging, purpose, and the ability to contribute meaningfully, reducing the likelihood of violent conflict. For us, building communities means creating a world with fewer wars and more harmony.

  • Participants can choose between different levels of involvement, from attending master workshops to engaging in deeper practice sessions, as well as small group deep dives and one on one mentoring sessions with the NVC Rising team that will focus on implementing the theory into your daily life and strengthening your practice. We offer flexible participation to suit various learning styles and needs.

  • No prior experience is required. The course is designed to benefit both beginners and those who already have some understanding of NVC, with different levels of engagement to match your familiarity.

  • This program does not replace trauma therapy or the important and often lengthy journey of healing trauma. We recommend that you seek professional and consistent therapy to support you in this journey.

What this course can offer you is a toolbox to aid your healing process. It can also provide space, tools, and support to heal and nourish relationships that may be strained due to your traumatic experiences, including your relationship with yourself.

The program may also help you connect with others and feel part of a warm community of people committed to practicing compassion and care for one another. While we cannot promise this, there is a high probability that such connections can provide great support.

To ensure that the workshops, groups, and duet work become trauma-sensitive and help those carrying trauma integrate well into the group while also caring for the collective, we have put together this protocol. We request that our team and participants review it, as we have found that it can help make the most of what the program has to offer.
